Who We Are

The Neurological Foundation is a New Zealand charity that funds vital research and ongoing education into neurological conditions, which includes diseases and disorders of the brain, spine and nerves.

Our mission is to “be a catalyst to improve the future quality of life for New Zealanders impacted by neurological conditions”. We’re committed to providing hope that through research there will be better treatments and possible cures for the range of conditions, now and in the future.

For 50 years, the Foundation has funded basic science and clinical research into conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease, dementia, motor neuron disease, autism, multiple sclerosis, mental illness, migraine, epilepsy, spinal cord and traumatic brain injury and dozens of other debilitating conditions. We are the only Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) dedicated to funding neurological research in New Zealand.

Donor Relations

Our team of Donor Relations Fundraisers are passionate about the work they do to raise funds for the Neurological Foundation. They are the perfect people to speak to if you are interested in supporting the Foundation's work.

Research Manager

The Neurological Foundation Research Manager manages the application process for grants, scholarships and fellowships, and is the main contact for researchers applying for funding.

Chief Medical Advisor

The Chief Medical Advisor guides the Foundation in all clinical matters, ensuring medical accuracy in our communications. They advise the Scientific Advisory Committee on clinical aspects of funding applications and is part of the Personal Awards Committee for senior and clinical fellowships.

Neurological Foundation Council

The Neurological Foundation Council is the governing body of the Foundation and is made up of business experts, neurologists and neuroscientists who volunteer their time without remuneration. 

Grant Committees

The Foundation maintains a pool of expert committee members and selects from this pool to convene the Scientific Advisory Committee and Personal Awards Committee as required to consider applications for funding.
